In the heart of the Baltic region lies Lithuania, a nation with a rich and complex spiritual history. For centuries, the resilient faith of the Lithuanian people has been a cornerstone of their identity, with the majestic spires of Catholic cathedrals dotting the landscape. Today, while over 79% of the population identifies as Christian, a closer look reveals a nation at a spiritual crossroads.
The dominant Roman Catholic Church, while still a powerful cultural force, has seen a decline in active participation, particularly among the youth. The scars of Soviet-era atheism and the allure of modern secularism have left a spiritual vacuum in the hearts of many. Yet, in the midst of this, a new story is being written. Small but vibrant evangelical communities are emerging, filled with a passion to share the life-transforming message of Jesus Christ. These believers are a beacon of hope, working tirelessly to ignite a spiritual awakening in their homeland.
Our hearts are stirred for the people of Lithuania, especially for those who have yet to hear the good news of salvation. The Joshua Project identifies several unreached people groups within Lithuania, including the Jewish, Karaite, and Deaf communities. These are people who have little to no access to the Gospel in their own language and culture. We are reminded of the powerful words of Romans 10:14: “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” This is our call to action.
Let us join together in fervent prayer for Lithuania. Let’s pray for a revival in the traditional churches, that they would be filled with a renewed passion for evangelism and discipleship. Let’s cry out for the salvation of the lost, that their hearts would be opened to the love of God. Let’s intercede for the government, that they would lead with wisdom and protect religious freedom. Let’s ask God to heal the deep wounds of the past and to break the chains of spiritual apathy.
But our love for Lithuania doesn’t have to stop at prayer. We can actively partner with what God is doing in this nation. We can support the incredible work of indigenous ministries like City Church Lithuania, which is planting new churches and reaching the unreached. We can commit to praying regularly and specifically for the needs of the Lithuanian people. And for some, God may be calling you to go, to be His hands and feet on the ground, sharing the hope of the Gospel with those who are desperately searching for it. Let’s rise up, church, and answer the call to love on Lithuania.
