Love on Uzbekistan: Praying for the Nations

In the heart of Central Asia lies Uzbekistan, a land of ancient cities, vibrant culture, and a rich Islamic heritage. For centuries, the rhythms of life in this nation have been shaped by the traditions of the Silk Road and the teachings of Islam. Yet, even in this deeply traditional society, God is at work, quietly and powerfully drawing hearts to Himself. With a Christian population of just 2.3%, the vast majority of Uzbeks have never heard the name of Jesus. The spiritual landscape is dominated by Islam, and while there is a small and growing church, it faces significant challenges, including government restrictions and social pressure. The need for the light of the Gospel to shine in this nation is immense.

Despite the challenges, there is hope. The church in Uzbekistan, though small, is resilient and growing. Believers are sharing their faith with courage and conviction, and stories of supernatural encounters and dreams are fueling a quiet revival. The total Christian population is approximately 852,000, with an evangelical population of around 0.2%. The main Christian denominations present are the Russian Orthodox Church, along with various Protestant groups such as Baptists, Pentecostals, and Korean Christians. Key unreached people groups include the Uzbeks, Tajiks, Karakalpaks, and Lyuli, who have had little to no exposure to the Gospel.

Let us lift up Uzbekistan in prayer. Pray for the church to be strengthened and emboldened, and for believers to be protected from persecution. Pray for the lost, that their hearts would be opened to the truth of the Gospel. Pray for the government and leaders of Uzbekistan, that they would rule with justice and righteousness, and that there would be greater religious freedom in the nation. Pray for the unique challenges facing the nation, including poverty and social pressures, to be overcome. And pray for a mighty revival and spiritual awakening to sweep across the land, bringing a harvest of souls for the glory of God.

You can be a part of what God is doing in Uzbekistan. Commit to praying regularly for the nation and the church there. Support indigenous ministries and church planters who are on the front lines of sharing the Gospel. Consider how you might use your skills and resources to make a difference in this strategic nation. Together, let us love on Uzbekistan and believe for a great move of God in this land.
