You were made on purpose

You are not an accident.

The Bible opens with a God who makes a world on purpose and calls it good — and makes people in His own image, to be known by Him and to know Him. Whatever you have been told about your worth, it did not start with your performance. It started with Him.

“So God created mankind in his own image… and it was very good.”

Genesis 1:27, 31

Something went wrong

And you already know it did.

The word the Bible uses is sin — not a list of rules broken, but a relationship broken. We each decided we would rather run our own lives than trust the One who made us. You can see the wreckage of that in the world, and if you are honest, in yourself: the thing you cannot stop doing, the person you cannot forgive, the ache nothing fills.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

God came after you anyway

This is the part that stops people.

He did not wait for you to clean yourself up. Jesus — God Himself in a body — lived the life we could not live, then went to a Roman cross and took the punishment that belonged to us. Three days later He walked out of the grave alive. The debt is not reduced. It is paid, and the receipt is an empty tomb.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

It is yours for the taking

You cannot earn it. You can receive it.

This is what Christians mean by grace: a gift you did nothing to deserve and cannot pay back. You receive it by turning — turning from running your own life, and turning to trust Jesus with it. Not a perfect life first. Not a religious performance. Just an honest yes.

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Before you decide

The things people say first

Four things people often say before they are ready. None of them is a reason He would turn you away.

“You don't know what I've done.”

No — but He does, and He came anyway. The first person Jesus promised paradise to was a criminal being executed beside Him, who had nothing left to offer but a sentence of faith. There is no floor below His reach. Your past is not too heavy; it is exactly what He carried to the cross.

“I'm not sure I believe enough.”

Jesus never asked for perfect certainty. A father once told Him, “I do believe; help my unbelief” — and Jesus answered that prayer. Faith is not the absence of questions. It is turning toward Him with the questions still in your hands.

“I need to sort my life out first.”

That is backwards, and it is the reason a lot of people never start. You do not clean up to come to Jesus; you come to Jesus and He begins the cleaning. He has never once been surprised by anyone.

“Christians hurt me.”

Then we are sorry — genuinely. The Church is full of people still being changed, and some of them have done real damage in God's name. Jesus was angrier about religious hypocrisy than anyone. Judge Him by Himself: read the Gospel of John and meet Him directly, not through the people who misrepresented Him.

There are no magic words — God listens to your heart, not your vocabulary. But if you would like help starting, pray this slowly, and mean it.

Jesus, I've been running my own life, and I need You.

I believe You died for my sin and that God raised You from the dead.

Thank You for a gift I could never earn.

I turn from my old way, and I trust You with all of it.

Be my Saviour and my Lord. Amen.

How do I become a Christian?

Becoming a Christian means turning from running your own life and putting your trust in Jesus Christ — believing He died for your sin and rose from the dead, and receiving Him as Saviour and Lord. There is no ritual or fee. You can tell God so in your own words right now. Then tell another Christian, begin reading the Gospel of John, and join a healthy local church so you are not walking it alone.

What exactly do I have to believe?

At the centre: that Jesus is who He said He is — God come as a man; that He died in your place for your sin; that He physically rose from the dead; and that you are trusting Him rather than your own record. You do not need to understand everything about God to begin with Him. Understanding grows after trust, not before it.

Is there a prayer I should pray?

No words are magic — God responds to your heart, not to a formula. But if you want help beginning, pray something like: “Jesus, I have been running my own life and I need You. Thank You for dying for my sin and rising again. I turn from my old way and I trust You. Be my Saviour and my Lord. Amen.” If you meant it, He heard it.

What happens after I say yes?

You are forgiven, adopted into God's family, and given the Holy Spirit — not because you feel different, but because of what Jesus has done. Your next steps are simple: tell someone, start reading the Gospel of John, talk to God honestly every day, get connected to a healthy local church, and ask about baptism. Do I have to feel something?

No. Some people weep; others feel almost nothing on the day and only see the change months later. Your salvation rests on what Jesus did, not on the strength of your emotions. Feelings follow faith far more often than they lead it.
