How to Start an Outreach Group in Your City

By · · Updated

You don't need a building, a budget or a title — just two or three people, a consistent spot, and a willingness to show up. Here's how our groups start.

Every Love on The World group in every city began the same unglamorous way: a few believers decided to show up in one place, on one day, on purpose — and then kept doing it.

There is no secret. There is no certification. If you have a heart for your city and a willingness to be inconvenienced, you can start.

The five things that actually matter

Pray and seek God first

If you feel a fire to reach your city, that's not ambition — that's the Holy Spirit stirring you. Ask Him to confirm it and to give you the right people.

Gather two or three

Not twenty. Jesus sent them out in pairs, and He promised to be present where two or three gather in His name. Start with who's already willing.

Pick one place and one time

A downtown block, a park, a bus terminal, a street corner. Same day, same time. Consistency is what turns a visit into a presence.

Show up no matter what

Rain, snow, heat, and the weeks when only two of you come. This is where most groups quietly die — and where yours can quietly win.

Love people boldly and practically

Pray for people. Share the Gospel. Bring food, socks, water, coffee. Meet the body and the soul; Jesus always did both.

For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.

What to do with the people you meet

This is the part most outreaches miss. You'll meet someone extraordinary, pray with them, feel the presence of God — and then never see them again because nobody wrote anything down.

Use Kingdom Base from day one

Our free evangelism CRM keeps the names, stories, prayer needs, and next steps from every outreach. It's the difference between a moment and a discipleship journey. Open Kingdom Base

You won't be doing it alone

When you start a group with us, you're joining a family. We'll encourage you, coach you, pray for you, and connect you with people doing the same thing in other cities. You can also see the wider picture of where the Gospel is going on the Love on Mission map.

And if you want equipping before you begin, our evangelism training exists for exactly that — practical, real-world help so sharing Jesus stops feeling frightening.

The honest promise

Some weeks will feel electric. Some weeks three people will show up and nothing visible will happen. Both weeks count. God is not measuring your crowd — He's watching your faithfulness.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Questions people ask

How many people do I need to start an outreach group?

Two or three is enough. Jesus sent His disciples out in pairs and promised to be with even two or three gathered in His name.

Do I need training or permission to start?

There is no certification. Pray, gather a few willing people and start. Follow local rules for the public space you choose, and use our evangelism field guide and training if you want equipping first.

Pick one place and one time and keep it every week. Consistency is what turns a visit into a presence people can find.

What does an outreach group actually do?

Pray for people, share the Gospel, and meet practical needs with things like food, water, socks or coffee — caring for body and soul as Jesus did.

How do we keep track of the people we meet?

Write names, stories, prayer needs and next steps down from the first night. Kingdom Base is a free tool built for exactly this, so a moment can become a discipleship journey.
