People ask about baptism for two opposite reasons. Some are afraid it is the thing that actually saves them, so they feel behind. Others treat it as optional, so they never do it. Both miss what Jesus asked.

What baptism is not

It is not the moment you earn God's forgiveness. Jesus saves people who trust Him. The thief beside Him was promised paradise without a baptism, because he had no chance to be baptized — and because the rescue is a gift.

It is not a family tradition you inherit without faith. The New Testament pattern is people who have believed, then been baptized.

The person who shared Jesus with you, or a new friend from the church. Do not do the public part alone if you can help it.
